It's disheartening when you live in a house that seemed to have an abundance of storage space at the outset and yet you quickly seemed to use it all up - it's easily done, especially if you have children. Most of us are often looking for ways to maximise the amount of storage in our homes through innovative solutions, and there are a number of ways in which we can go about doing so.
There are some elegant solutions out there, including several examples of space-saving furniture that mange to offer functionality while still managing to maintain a style that doesn't look out of place in a modern home.
Property obviously differs wildly in terms of the amount of space on offer, so certain houses will be easier to keep tidy than others - but even if your home is on the ‘cosy' end of the scale, there are still options out there for you.
Bedrooms are a great place to start when looking to implement new storage options. Whether you choose to seep on a traditional bed frame or a divan set, both are capable of helping you to tidy away clutter. If you go for a bed frame with a high floor clearance, you'll be able to fit several storage boxes underneath. What you choose to keep in the boxes is up to you, but they'll be hidden well out of sight while still being accessible at the drop of a hat. And while you can't fit storage boxes under a divan bed, many examples come with inbuilt storage draws - perfect for keeping spare bedding tidy.
In the spare room, stylish wooden storage chests or trunks are perfect for keeping the mess at bay. They're available in any number of styles with a price to match every budget. For children's rooms, brightly coloured storage boxes are an ideal way to encourage your children to tidy up after themselves once playtime is over. If you have more than one child sharing the same room, then of course bunk beds are a classic way to utilise the space effectively.
If your house doesn't have the required number of rooms to allow you to have a permanent guest bedroom, a sofa bed can be a wonderful way to use a single room for several different purposes. Equally as easy to fold out into a bed and return to the original position, sofa beds offer the best of both worlds.
If you're planning on using your increased levels of storage to pack away certain valuable items for extended periods of time, be sure to take an inventory of what's being kept where. This will be invaluable if you're unlucky enough to be targeted by burglars as you'll be able to tell your home insurance provider quickly and efficiently exactly what has been take from your house.
