Halloween is on the horizon and it's a great excuse for throwing a family friendly party. As well as coming up with original fancy dress ideas and supplying some suitably spooky refreshments, you'll want to provide some Halloween-themed party games to get everybody in the mood to enjoy themselves. Here are a few ideas to get you going:
Bobbing for Apples
Sometimes the classic games are the best. Simple to set up and endlessly entertaining to watch as well as participate in, bobbing for apples is a traditional Halloween party game that is sure to go down a storm. Simply fill a large tub or bucket with water and some fresh apples - players take it in turns to try and retrieve an apple using only their mouth. It's harder than it sounds as the apples bob around unpredictably in the water - just be sure to cut the stems from the apples before you play so that your players don't have it too easy!
Pass the Pumpkin
Split your guests into equal teams of around six to eight players. The person at the front of each team's line places a small pumpkin under their chin and attempts to transfer it to their nearest team member, who must also receive it under their chin - no hands allowed! The pumpkin passes down the line in the same manner and the first team to get theirs to the end of the line wins. Don't be too hasty, though; if you drop the pumpkin it must go back to the start of the line again.
The Eye and Spoon Race
A gruesome twist on the tried and trusted egg and spoon race, this simple game is perfect for any kids that may be in attendance. Split your players into teams and provide each with a spoon and a ping pong ball decorated like an eyeball. Each player must balance the eye on the spoon and make it to a marker and back before passing it to the next person on their team. The first team to finish the course is the winner - and in the event of a dead heat, the team that dropped the eye the least wins.
Pumpkin Bowling
Just as simple as it sounds, pumpkin bowling sees players attempt to knock down pins (or a suitable substitute, such as tin cans) with small pumpkins. For each round, give each player two throws and give them a point for every pin they manage to knock over. At the end of five rounds, the player with the most points is the winner.
Halloween Film Trivia
If your Halloween party is aimed at adults then holding a quiz based around scary movies can be a great idea - and you'll have plenty of fun re-watching all your favourite horror films to research the questions! Be sure not to make the quiz too tricky as not everyone will have the same knowledge of films and the idea is to provide fun for all. Mix in plenty of questions that are guessable - for instance, how many films are there in the Nightmare On Elm Street franchise? - as well as the more specialist questions.
