Read our guide on how to run a brilliant cake sale at your school so that you can raise lots of money for charity whilst having fun at the same.

The first step is decided who will be paying for the ingredients? It is worth talking to local businesses for sponsorship or even supermarkets- in return for their help with ingredients you can offer them free advertising at the event and on all promotion materials. If you are seeking sponsorship then you should write to the companies well in advance of the event, explain to them who you are collecting money for and what you need from them in order to bake the cakes.

If you are unable to obtain sponsorship for your school cake sale then it is worth writing to the parents at the school to see if they could donate ingredients for the cause.

The next step is deciding who will be baking the cakes?

If you are planning a large cake sale at your school then you will need a team of people to help you with the baking. Approach teachers, members of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and even the kids themselves to help you in the kitchen!

You may also want to persuade some of your helpers to lend a helping hand with selling the cakes on the day.

The next step is promotion! Place posters around the school advertising the date and time of the cake sale as well as the charity you are collecting for. You should continue promotion right up until the day of the cake sale. Remember to also write home to the children's parents to gain their consent as well as to remind them to bring in some change on the day to buy some cakes.

On the day of the school cake sale fundraiser, set up your stall. Preferably you will want at least one person serving the cakes whilst another is dealing with the money. You could either have a set price for each cake or ask for a donation. If you have invested your own money into the ingredients remember to price the cakes accordingly. You should also remember to label the cakes and cookies to highlight to those with food allergies what's inside.

You don't have to limit yourself to just cakes; you could also sell drinks and sweets at your school fundraiser. It is also a great idea to place fundraising buckets around the school so that you can collect even more money for your chosen charity or cause.
