Read our guide on how to organise and run a non-school uniform fundraiser at your school. This article is full of top tips to ensure your fundraiser is not only successful but fun too! When it comes to fundraising in school, nothing goes down better than a mufti day - the kids get to dress down and so do the staff!

The first steps to running a successful non-school uniform day is the promotion of the event - I'm sure everyone can remember at least one kid who came into school on mufti day with their school uniform on! So how do you promote the fundraiser? Fortunately, as it's a school fundraiser the promotion side of things is relatively easy. Start by placing posters around the school advertising the fundraising event and the charity or cause you are collecting for. You should also announce the non-school uniform day during assembly leading up to the event. It is also recommended that you send a letter home to the parents to make them aware of the event and to gain their consent.

It may also be worth speaking to the local press to see if they will cover the event to drum up support for the charity. You could even try talking to local businesses to see if they will donate money in return for some free advertisement on the day.

The next step is to decide on how you will be raising the money for your charity or cause? There are a number of options you could take. Firstly, you could ask for a set donation from each student and member of staff who comes to school in non-uniform/ dress down. Alternatively, you could ask each student to gain sponsorship for the day. The second method could increase your level of donation but will require extra planning and will take longer for the monies to be collected.

If you are collecting for a certain charity or cause then it's a great idea to theme your events to match the organisation. For example, if you are running a breast cancer fundraiser then you ask each student to wear something pink. There are also charities that specialize in organising non-school uniform days such as the Jeans for Gene's campaign, whereby staff and pupils are allowed to wear jeans for the day in return for a donation to children with genetic disorders.

The next step to running a successful school non-uniform day is the collection of money. It is recommended that you collect the donations early in the day before the pupils have a chance to spend it on lunch! You should allocate roles to members of staff to ensure that the number of people handling the money is kept to a minimum. You could also have charity buckets dotted around the school for any loose change the children may accumulate through the day.
