Upscale Lighting is an effective tool to use within the home and is one of the easiest ways in which you can change the look and feel of a room without the need to look up new paint schemes and samples of material. With so many new and innovative lighting fixtures on offer, it has never been easier to add bright light which enables us to complete daily tasks or soft, smoldering light to help make those cozy nights in feel even cozier.
Accent lighting is the form of lighting which is commonly used in order to illuminate using subtle, soft light or to highlight specific areas or objects within a room. For example, home owners who possess beautiful pieces of art may opt for lighting which is strategically placed underneath or above the piece of work. Not only does this bring attention to the piece, but it also acts as a simple yet effective way in which to add low light to the room-perfect for those instances where you do not require bright, track lighting for example. By using the correct level of light and the correct lighting fixtures, accent lighting can be effectively used to create a certain tone or atmosphere to your room-whether it is the living room, dining room; or even the bedroom.
The most commonly used types of accent lighting come in the forms of track, recessed and wall-mounted light fixtures. Track lighting is the most common of the three as it is often perceived to be the most versatile and easiest to use. Within track lighting, fixtures are placed where required and aimed in the direction where light is needed along the track. They are often used in conjunction with other light sources such as table or floor lamps. Recessed lighting fixtures are designed to blend into their surroundings and are usually placed in more ‘hidden' areas such as underneath cabinets. Wall-mounted fixtures are obviously, installed directly into a wall or a similar surface such as the ceiling.
Accent lighting can be created using a range of different lighting fixtures from fiber optics, metal halides and LED. The most commonly used lights for accent lighting come in the form of halogen lights. These are a popular choice as they produce a strong, white light which provides great coverage of light for a room and can often be bought in bulk for a lower price. However, LED lights are quickly becoming more favored as not only are they more energy efficient, but they also last longer and can be used for various different applications.
When it comes to adding accent lighting within your home, the first thing you need to do is think about where you wish to add the lighting and the overall look you wish to gain from this lighting. It is only by clearly identifying your needs for accent lighting that you will be able to choose the best type of lighting fixture which in turn will help your room feel homely and cozy.
