It is always going to be hard to cope if there is an unhelpful interruption to your gas and electricity supply. Surviving without gas or electricity for a small period of time is possible, if you know what to do. Losing both gas and electricity at the same time would be a major problem as there are many different things to think of.
If there has been a power cut you will need sources of light in order to be able to see things properly. Torches are the best option here and it is important to stock up on batteries so that torches can work for longer, depending on the duration of the power cut. In addition unplug equipment which may surge when electricity returns and need to telephone electricity provider for updates on when power will return. There will be other things needed such as a first aid kit as you will be walking around in the dark and more prone to accident. For entertainment purposes keep a wind up radio close by to both hear news on the power cut and also listen to in general.
A lot of businesses simply would not survive without gas or electricity. If gas and electricity is lost businesses with dual fuel agreements may suffer. Price comparison sites offer the best deals on business gas, business electricity prices and business electricity suppliers. Larger and more successful businesses have back up power that will help. But for those businesses which have gas powered heaters and boilers and electricity in their computers and lighting, there is not much that can be done. The best thing to do may be to close windows and keep the heat in the room. Businesses will lose money for every minute the power is off. However, they can get an hour out of a fully charged laptop and use fully charged mobile phones to conduct business calls.
Green energy can be utilised and this is becoming more popular. This energy does not come from power stations and is renewable, meaning that in the future we do not need to worry about electricity supplies running out. Solar panels can be installed on roofs and generate electricity through sunlight. Wind turbines are also generating electricity through wind power and this does not cost much at all. Tidal power generates electricity in the same way as wind power but with water in water turbines. This has shown new ways of generating electricity that saves on costs and is environmentally friendly.
This emphasises just how important gas and electricity is to us. Every day we use gas and electricity to cook, get light, wash, shower, and watch television. It is no wonder they are called necessities. But now as rising gas and business electricity prices become more unbearable for some, there are new ways of generating electricity through renewable sources that are cheap. In the future there will evidently be new ideas and ways of generating these electricity types to make them more available for all. For businesses, some have the money to back up their power and even utilise renewable sources, whilst others would simply struggle if gas and electricity disappeared. Without electricity full stop it would be hard to see how people would cope as the majority of what we do on a day to day basis requires electricity.
