If you're just getting started with jewellery making, or you are in need of some inspiration, attending jewellery making exhibitions and events is a brilliant place to start.

Talking to other jewellery makers and being inspired by the work of others can really give you a boost to your jewellery making plans. There are plenty of exhibitions and events across the UK all year round.

Below is a list of events and places that are full of jewellery making inspiration.

1. Museum of The Jewellery Quarter. Based in Birmingham, the charge of £4 for adults includes a tour of the Smith and Pepper factory and the permanent galleries. There is very often a temporary exhibition being displayed, which is included in the ticket price. The Smith and Pepper factory was shut down in the 1980's and was left with a whole host of historical jewellery making tools, machinery and original décor. The museum also holds live demonstrations of jewellery making for entrants.

2. Victoria and Albert Museum. Claiming to be the world's greatest museum of art and design, this London museum exhibits historical and modern jewellery pieces. This museum covers different jewellery from all over the word and hosts temporary exhibitions regularly. The museum also covers a wide range of design, fashion and art galleries for added inspiration. Tickets can be booked on the day or through their box office.

3. The Jewelley Show will be coming to Birmingham's NEC Arena on 5th-9th February 2012. The show will play host to over 400 companies from the UK and around the world showcasing their latest collections. The show will also display jewellery making tools and equipment as well as shop fittings and displays. This is a great chance to meet a multitude of professionals and jewellery exhibitors. It is also a perfect opportunity to view the latest designers and trends for inspiration. You must register to attend the show online.

4. The London Jewellery School regularly offers workshops for jewellery making if you are just starting out. These include professional guidance, experienced tutors and tools for the workshop. This is a great way to meet other people with the same interests and to get some important tips from the professionals.

5. Lastly, you can find inspiration without even leaving your home. Looking at jewellery books and the latest fashions in jewellery online will provide you with a wealth of inspiration to get you started or to give you some extra motivation. Looking at jewellery through history is a great source of inspiration as you can generate ideas for your pieces from techniques used throughout history.

The Internet is a great place to start for inspiration, find museums and events in your local area, or even ask to speak to a local jewellery maker or find a jewellery making class. This is a great opportunity to meet people with similar interests, pick up hints and tips and find others with a passion for jewellery making.
