For jewellery makers, whether for a hobby or a business, there are certain items which come to the forefront of items that designers love to create time and time again. These are failsafe favourites both among jewellery makers themselves, and those who wear the creations. Read on to find out the most popular items in homemade unique jewellery;

1. Charm bracelet
This age old favourite is a way of personalising jewellery, while maintaining a classy look. Choose to make a charm bracelet with sterling silver or gold and keep charms relevant to the recipient to show you have put thought into the item. One idea, is a gift for a new mother, of a charm bracelet, with charms such as the baby's birthstone, date of birth, name, and then as years go by she can add to it with charms which mark the child's achievements. Charm bracelets provide sentimental value, and one which is homemade and individual will mean so much more than a shop bought, generic charm bracelet. Charm bracelets are also a fantastic introduction to jewellery making as they are relatively simple to thread, and can be therapeutic.

2. Earrings
Earrings are a favourite jewellery item of most women, and a few men. For those with pierced ears, it is rare to see them without earrings, and they have also become a favourite item for jewellery makers. The great thing about using silver art clay to design earrings is that it will give you the opportunity to expand your repertoire as a jewellery maker, allowing you to push the boundaries of creativity.

3. Brooch
Another item which can be moulded from precious metal clay is the simple brooch, which will provide the perfect complement to an outfit by adorning a jacket lapel or scarf with it. Easy to embellish with precious gems or diamantes, a brooch will give you the chance to be creative on a small item which will not be as fiddly as some others with lots of links and catches.

4. Ring
A ring can tell someone you love them, when given in the right context, and it can also tell someone you put thought and time into designing and crafting the item yourself, so don't just save the gift of a ring for your partner, but offer it to family and friends at birthdays, mother's day and Christmas, to name just a few perfect occasions. An attractive embellishment to any hand, rings can be one of the most easy jewellery items to make. Utilise silver art clay, and the recipient's favourite gem stone, or their birthstone, to be sure of a gift which is both unique and thoughtful.

5. A beaded bracelet
A beaded bracelet is likely where most jewellery makers start off practicing their skills, and can produce a simple, attractive item with relatively little experience needed. Choosing beads which go together, and attaching the clasp will be where your skills are put to the test. Be sure to buy a bead mat to avoid the beads rolling all over the place while you work.
