Oolong Health Benefits History
Oolong tea has many health benefits as are described throughout history from China to America. The proocess of making Oolong Teas is not a simple task. It goes through so many manufacturing steps, that you could get lost along the way. Produce a good taste, flavor and fragrance is an art and a Tea Masters designation is in order for the elite teamakers.
The tea leaves, the production area, and the harvest time are the key factors attributed to the end result. The most well known Oolong health benefits and Teas from China are: Tie Guan Yin, Shui Xian, Puerh (also considered a Black Tea), and Wuyi. They are all mostly grown in the Fujian Province.
Digressing a little, let us review the history of the island of Taiwan to fully understand some of the tea labels. It is also known as Formosa. The first explorers to visit Taiwan were the Portuguese sailors that were on route to China for trade. They were so impressed by the beauty of Taiwan, and her outreaching mountains, that they called the Island Formosa. The translation means "Beautiful Island". Some of the sailors actually stayed there to start trading companies. Taiwan is now a bustling modern country with the capitol of Taipei, one of the largest cities in Asia, a banking and trading mecca.
The most well known Oolong health benefits and Teas from Taiwan are: High Mountain Oolong, a general classification of Oolong Teas grown in the higher elevations. Although there are other names for the oolong teas, they are further classified by the inhabitants of the island {known as the Taiwanese}, by the Mountain ranges where the tea leaves are grown.
The other labels, or classifications of Taiwan Oolong health benefits and Teas are: Wuling, FoShou-Shan, Dayu-Ling, Ali-Shan, Li-Shan, Yu-Shan, Hehuan- Shan, and many more. The mountains are also named by the English names like Jade Mountain, Pear Mountain, etc. The teas are further labeled by their Taiwanese names, which we will leave to the locals to enjoy.
Taiwan tea farmers are increasingly adopting organic growing practices and most all the tea grown in Taiwan is consumed by the Taiwanese and the other local countries. Very little is exported to North and South America, and Europe. They know what's good for them!
