Down’s syndrome is a chromosomal disorder which is diagnosed when children are born with an extra chromosome. This imbalance within their bodies causes them to have lower cognitive ability and a particular set of facial features. It is still not clear to this day what causes such an abnormality, therefore there is no successful treatment. During pregnancy, it is not possible to accurately predict the symptoms the child with Down’s Syndrome will experience when it is born, but it is possible for a test to be scheduled in order to determine whether a child has the disorder or not.
Women who are concerned about a chromosomal abnormality in their child, maybe because of previous genetic experiences or just general concern, can schedule a Down’s syndrome test which can determine the nature of their child’s abnormality. It has been found that older women are more likely to have a child with Down’s syndrome, but that does not mean younger mothers have no risk. It is important that all women carrying a child consider having a Down’s syndrome test.
The reliability of such tests is high, but it can sometimes be less reliable for those who have had previous children with chromosomal abnormalities. If you plan to take one of these Down’s syndrome tests to help you decide on further medical help, it is important to consider your options carefully.
At Innermost Secrets, we can provide a scheduled appointment for you to have a Down’s syndrome test, or just a regular check up on your baby’s health. It is recommended that you make an appointment to avoid any unnecessary complications further into your pregnancy. For further help, we can advise you on how best to use the knowledge you have been given, and if indeed it is ideal to take further medical action.
