One of the best excuses for not going to the gym is having the time; however balancing your social life with keeping fit isn't as hard as you think.

Keeping your gym clothes at your place of work is a great tip as you can put them on as soon as you finish for the day. Having your workout outfit on as you leave the office puts you in the right frame of mind to get straight into the gym. It also saves time, meaning you can get in and out of the gym quicker to get on with the rest of your evening.

If you are an early bird, you could think about hitting the gym before work. Surprisingly your energy levels are actually higher in the morning and getting that burst of endorphins at the start of the day sets you up for the day of work. It's really reassuring to know that you have already hit your fitness regime before anything else and leaves the rest of the day totally free for play!

Why don't you make the gym part of your social life? A fun aerobics class is the perfect way to spend time with friends, having a laugh together whilst improving your fitness. The alternative would be drinking in your local, consuming calories and reversing all of your hard work! If you have a friend who could really benefit from some time in the health club, most do a ‘bring a friend' offer for you to benefit from introducing a pal. You may get a month's membership free or a complimentary treatment, as well as being able to train with your best mate.

The weekends are usually spent just socialising and as a result the Monday morning weigh in can be quite a shock. Instead of snubbing the gym on your down-time, coincide it with something you would normally do. For example if you're a lover of football, time the session during the match, it's amazing how quickly a session goes by when you're engrossed in the game. Or download a film onto your IPod and watch it whilst working out. Keeping yourself entertained is so important whilst you are improving your fitness and this way you can do both!

If finding your ideal partner is usually part of your social life, look no further than the gym! Checking out the guys whilst they pump iron or keeping your eye on the girls whilst they jog on the treadmill is much more exciting than the same old faces in the pub! You already know you have a shared interest - fitness, and before you know it you could be travelling to and from the gym together! Try striking up conversation whilst you're cooling off at the water-cooler and you may find your heart is pumping fast for an entirely different reason!
