There are hundreds of anti-ageing treatments out there, from expensive creams and serums to cosmetic treatments and procedures so how do you know which one is right for you?
The secret to looking younger is one all women search for so getting the right results for you is crucial.
Ageing skin can appear anywhere on the body, not just the face. Although this is one of the most visible areas where lines and wrinkles show, the neck, décolletage and hands are also key areas where the visible signs of ageing occur. So even if you are looking after the skin on your face, your neck and décolletage may make you appear older, so be sure to consider these areas when deciding what kind of anti-ageing treatment you want.
The most popular and most successful treatments that you should look into are:
• Microdermabrasion
• Skin Peels
• Fillers/Botox
• Skin tightening
Microdermabrasion is a deep exfoliation method where jets of micro crystals are propelled across the skin's surface, removing any dead and damaged skin cells leaving your skin smooth, soft and free of blemishes and wrinkles. While many beauty companies have created their own at home microdermabrasion kits, nothing beats the results you experience by trying the real thing. It can also be used on the body, not just the face to erase fine lines, scars, age spots, skin pigmentation and stretch marks.
Skin peels are very similar in the results they have on the skin. While these often leave patients with a more dramatic appearance afterwards, due to the acids used during the treatment, they are incredibly safe and pain free. Any mild discomfort or reddening of the skin quickly goes away and you are left with plumper, healthier looking skin so don't despair when your skin may feel slightly tight and looks red-that just means it's working. But with any treatment, if you feel a great amount of pain, then alert the doctor or beautician immediately.
Fillers and Botox are often used when creams and exfoliators are no longer making an impact and so you will see results almost instantly. The differences between the two are that fillers are used to plump out sagging skin where volume has been lost (such as the cheeks) and some wrinkles whereas Botox freezes the muscle stopping it from contracting and forming deeper wrinkles and lines. Mainly used to combat deep expression lines on the face (such as laughter lines and crow's feet) but Botox is also used to help stop excessive sweating under the arms, to cushion the balls of your feet and also to relieve tensions and cramps (such as Writer's cramp).
Finally, skin tightening uses lasers to restore tone and tautness to the skin whilst promoting collagen in the skin and also erasing any blemishes on the surface. A fairly unknown yet highly effective anti-ageing treatment, skin tightening uses a laser to create a beam of high-intensity light that deeply penetrates the skin tissue, causing a 'zone' of heat. This helps collagen production leaving you with tighter, lifted and plumper skin which are synonymous with youth and health.
So to achieve the most youthful look you can, be sure to keep skin moisturised and healthy by not smoking and drinking and by avoiding the sun. These treatments are all designed to help you look younger when steps taken by you alone are no longer sufficient. Always research treatments fully and talk to an expert before committing to anything.
