We have all heard of the saying "It's not what you know, it's who you know". This can be true in all walks of life but probably moreso in the world of business. The most successful people are usually the ones who have good contacts which result in good things happening. Such realities have significantly increased the importance networking in recent times.

Networking is all about forming relationships with people to allow the sharing of information, ideas, services and other people. It saves you time looking around for things, and puts you in contact with the necessary facilities or people who have "been there before" and ensure you get exactly what you're looking for.

A number of organisations in the community require money to help fund their projects and day to day operations. This is not just done by sponsorship and it can be necessary for them to employ fundraising techniques in order to reach their financial goals. Fundraising ideas can include selling raffle tickets, running trivia nights, holding auctions, sports days, fun runs, bbqs, selling chocolates, movie nights and lots more.

A lot of these organisations have a committee with lots of man power, which enables them to make things happen without too much legwork. But sometimes an organisation such as a sports team or youth group may not even have a committee, and is only run by one or two people, with no extra assistance. It is in these situations where networking becomes all the more important.

For these smaller organisations, having a good network will greatly improve your community fundraising efforts. If, for example, you are looking to sell raffle tickets, knowing the right contacts will assist you in all stages of the fundraiser process. Firstly, you will be able to source suitable companies who are willing to donate their products or services as prizes for your raffle. Secondly, you will be able to find good locations for your members to set up tables and sell the raffle tickets.

Take a triva night as another example. Networking will put you in touch with people who can help organise a venue to hold the function at. It will also allow you to find an MC for the night who is reliable and affordable. This will ensure that costs are kept low, and maximise your profits for the event. After all, money is the key here!

As you can see, networking can benefit your organisations fundraising plans immensely. Knowing more people in the community and having contacts who can point you in the right direction will ensure your ideas are brought to life, and the techniques used are of the highest quality. Raising money for your club, group or sports team will never be easier!
